FAQs

  • For established clients (does not apply to permanent extenders) you can start scheduling your appointment on December 1st when our 2025 online calendar goes live.

  • Yes, but on a very limited basis.  You must be either active or retired Law Enforcement or a first responder and agree to be a permanent extender.  We ask that all New clients call the office before scheduling an appointment online.

  • Permanent extenders are clients who agree to have their tax appointment scheduled for a date after the April 15th deadline, and have an extension filed on their behalf.  This policy was put in place in 2023 and is required for all new clients, unless otherwise specified by Joe.

  • An email will be sent directly to you in early-mid November to remind you to schedule your appointment by calling or emailing our office.  You will have priority access until December 15th to schedule your appointment before we open the calendar for all clients to book online.

  • An email will be sent to ALL clients in late January with the extension request form, and will be posted on our secure portal.  Typically we do not start processing extensions until February in order to ensure that clients have received all of their tax forms.  We do not charge a fee for extensions. However, we do require a new extension request form to be submitted in writing each year. WE DO NOT FILE AUTOMATIC EXTENSIONS FOR PREVIOUS TAX  YEAR CLIENTS!

  • No. If you have already met with Joe we should have most of the information we need to file an extension on your behalf, however we may need to request additional information depending on what tax documents are missing. If you would like to send in a payment with your extension form we will need to know the amount you want to send.  See Extension Information under Client Resources for more details.

  • The tax prep fee will depend on the complexity of your tax return.  For more information please call our office.  Tax consultations during the "Off Season" are a flat fee of $150 for 1.5 hrs.  During tax season tax consultations are $250.

  • Appointments are 1.5 hrs long which allows plenty of time to go over your current tax year. If you plan to start a business, retire, etc. a consultation appointment outside of tax season may be necessary, but Joe will do his best to answer all your questions during your tax appointment's allotted time slot.

  • We do require you to bring all of your current tax year documents with you to your appointment. New clients need to also bring a copy of the drivers license and social security card. Click here for the full list of tax documents that may be needed. Please bring hard copies of your documents or upload digital copies to your portal or the guest exchange if you are a new client.  We do not accept thumb drives, USB flash drives, memory sticks, external hard drives, etc.

  • The Portal is a secure online system for clients to send documents to our office and for our office to send documents to our clients.  The portal is meant to be used as a conduit for sending documents back and forth.  It is not meant for permanent storage of your documents. We encourage all clients to download any documents they want to keep onto their own personal device (computer, ipad, phone, etc.) After every tax season we will clear out all documents in preparation for the next tax season.

  • You can access your portal login page and Guest Exchange by using our website and clicking on the Portal Login button to the right of the Navigation Banner of any of our webpages.

  • If you have chosen to sign by either portal delivery or e-signature, you must be able to log into your portal. Please click here for more details.

  • You can either call or email our office during regular business hours and we will resend your portal invite that includes your portal username.  The portal invite will expire after 72 hrs.  If you already have a portal, and just forgot your username or password , then you can just click on the Forgot Username or Forgot Password links on the portal login page.  An email will be sent to the email we have on file.

  • You can either fax your missing documents to our office 832-680-2830, or bring hard copies to the office to be scanned.  Please do not leave ANY documents with the front desk.  Only hand documents to a Simplify Tax Employee.

  • If you electronically signed your return, or had a portal delivery, then a pdf copy of the return can be found in the folder "Documents from Preparer"

As the portal is not meant for long-term storage of files, if the return you are looking for is not present, then you may either call or email our office and we will re-upload a copy to your portal.

*Please notify our office if you would like a hard copy of your tax return. Kindly note that an additional fee will apply for this service.

  • You can log into your portal and you will find them saved in the "Public Folder".

  • Our priority focus is individual tax returns, self employed, and single member LLC's.  We do prepare some Estate and Trust returns for existing clients.
